A set of six Danish "Model 42" chairs in Rio rosewood by Kai Kristiansen for Schou Andersen, made circa 1960.
The Rio rosewood is strikingly rich in colour and varied in its veining, far superior to the less florid Santos rosewood, teak or stained oak versions.
They have been restored to a silky smooth finish and reupholstered in black, natural grain leather. The tapered legs, angular armrests and floating backs create a striking modernist form.
The tilting backs and generously padded seats are designed for comfort as well as beauty.
